Styled by Tara: using a clutch to elevate your outfit
Posted on December 02 2016
Pairing the right clutch with your outfit is especially important in styling your look for the holidays. Often a clutch can be your secret style weapon, and it is one of the easiest (and fastest) switches you can make to elevate the ordinary into something more elegant.
Also, there is a misconception that clutches are only for special occasions. Just like you have different bags for work, travel, weekend, etc, it is helpful to have one or two clutches in your accessories repertoire. If you attend a lot of receptions for work, it’s particularly handy to stash one in your desk for a quick transition.
The embellished clutch: this statement-maker ads a dramatic focal point to your outfit and sets the tone for the evening. Perfect for holiday parties and nights on the town, the embellished clutch projects confidence and style, especially when pattern mixing is involved. You’ll want to choose a style that enhances your look without being too match-y. Done right, the embellished clutch can be your style savior whether you are going to a black-tie affair or out for dinner and drinks wearing a relatively plain silk tee, jeans and heels.
Here are some my favorites:
The hard case clutch: sleek and glamorous, box clutches project an “you’ve got your act together” look and can’t be weighted down by anything other than the essentials: cellphone, lipstick and your ID. This understated, elegant look has been very popular in the past few years and shows no signs of slowing down.
